Genbook integrates with two powerful and secure payment processors to make taking online payments seamless and straightforward for you and your clients.
Below we'll take you through the steps of turning on Payments and connecting with Square.

Adding Square as your payment processor.

1. In order to process payments via Genbook, you will first need to enable Payments at Settings  > Payments.

2. Choose Square as your payment processor.

3. When Square is selected, you have the option of connecting an existing Square account with Genbook or signing up for a new Square account.


4. Once the Square account is successfully connected to Genbook, the Genbook Payments page is displayed. Square will map your business locations to the  location listed in Genbook. 

The Login to Square link will take you to your Square dashboard.

Disconnecting previous processor

If you need to disconnect Stripe in order to connect Square, you can do so under Settings > Payments


Tip: If an appointment has a transactions started using one payment processor and the processor is changed before that appointment is fully paid, the transaction would need to be finished in Stripe. It is not possible to have transactions with two different processors on the same appointment.

Processing Payments

You can store a card for later processing  from the first screen in the checkout process. This can be used to secure an offline booking.


You may also manually enter a payment method at checkout if you are not using the Square reader.

Settings up payments within the Manager App

You can manage Payments features via the Manager app via Settings

If you are settings up Payments for the first time, you can now choose between Stripe and Square.

After selecting Square, you can choose to sign up for a new Square account or connect to an existing Square account. You can also disconnect the previous payment processor here.

Once the Square account is chosen, you can manage the preferences, including   credit card capture, cancellation policy and an additional payments message.


Locations defined in Square can be mapped to Genbook locations

Tip: If an appointment has a transactions started using one payment processor and the processor is changed before that appointment is fully paid, the transaction would need to be finished in Stripe. It is not possible to have transactions with two different processors on the same appointment.

You now have the capability to choose payment preferences at a service level via the Manager app. You can designate if you want CC capture, deposit or full payment to be required during the booking process.

Tip: If you are using the Android app to process payments via Square and collecting taxes via Genbook, you need to disable taxes in Square so that the amount is not collected twice.

How Square payments work

Checkout can be initiated from any booking

The Square app opens to complete the sale and you can tap a card on the Square reader or choose an alternative Square payment option.

You can customize the Square receipt from within Square.

When the Square payment completes it returns you to the Genbook checkout.

Tip: Square offers an option for adding a tip after the transaction has been completed. Unfortunately this feature does not work with the Genbook integration and it is not advisable to use it when processing payments through Genbook.

Square processing fees

Square card-present transactions are 2.5% +$0.10 (These are transactions processed using the Square reader)

Online payments are processed at a rate of 2.6% +$0.10 per successful transaction.
